Hello, my name is Michelle. I’m a journalist. Two weeks ago, I was busy working on a special report, when my boss’ secretary knocked on my door and told me that my boss needed me in his office. My boss talked to me about a special assignment in China and he said he wanted me to handle this, provided I learn basic Chinese. I asked him if the company would shoulder the training expenses, and he said NO. He gave me a month to learn the language and there were actually two candidates for the said assignment, me and my number one enemy. At the end of the month, he would give us a language test and whoever got the better score would get the assignment. Of course, this seemed like a competition I could never lose, not to Leona, my enemy!

When I reached home, I immediately checked the phone book for language schools offering Chinese lessons. There were a lot of them so I called them and inquired about the fee. I didn’t know it was so expensive to learn Chinese. I even called language schools in Ladue, University City, Richmond Heights, Chesterfield, Olivette, Frontenac, Westwood, and Fernridge, but the fees were almost the same. I checked the money I had in my account and unfortunately, it was not enough to pay even the cheapest program. I asked if it’s possible to pay half, then the other half at the end of the program. All of them said no because I was interested in a crash course. Thus, the only thing I could do was to find someone to help me pay for the Chinese lessons.

I searched the Internet for free Chinese lessons, but after visiting 2 sites, I thought it was not a good idea. I needed to get a really good score. It should be higher than Leona’s and if I wanted this really positive result, I had to invest in it. So, instead of free Chinese lessons, I searched for loan companies. One site caught my attention. I almost jumped for joy. I got the money the same day and I immediately registered at the language school nearest my village.
